Court Sentences Late Gospel Singer Osinachi’s Husband to Death by Hanging

Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on April 28, sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi, to death by hanging.

"Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court sentencing Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, to death by hanging after being found guilty of culpable homicide in Abuja."

The court found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide in connection with the death of his wife, who passed away on April 8, 2022.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Nwosu-Iheme ruled that the prosecution had successfully discharged the burden of proof required by law, establishing Nwachukwu's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Nwachukwu was first arraigned on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) on behalf of the Federal Government. He faced a 23-count charge, including culpable homicide punishable by death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, and spousal battery.

During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the late singer's children, who testified as the fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses (PW4 and PW5). Additionally, 25 documents were tendered as exhibits.

In his defense, Nwachukwu testified and called four other witnesses, submitting four exhibits to support his case.

Before sentencing, Nwachukwu’s counsel, Reginald Nwali, pleaded with the court for leniency, while the prosecution counsel, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to apply the full weight of the law.
