In a recent operation, the Anambra State Police Command arrested three suspected cultists, including a 50-year-old man named Chidi Ekwesiri from Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area. The police also recovered an automatic pump action gun and a police uniform from the suspects.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested during a surveillance patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway by Unizik Temp Site. During interrogation, Ekwesiri claimed to be a sergeant in the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos, but later denied this claim. He also confessed that the gun was given to him by an unidentified man at Ukpo.

The police were able to arrest two additional suspects based on information provided by Ekwesiri. The suspects are currently undergoing police interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive investigation. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
