Paul Pogba’s brother sentenced to prison over extortion

A Paris court has sentenced Mathias Pogba, the brother of French football star Paul Pogba, to a three-year prison term for his involvement in a high-profile extortion case.¹ Mathias Pogba will serve only one year of his sentence, and he will be allowed to do so while wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet instead of being incarcerated.²

 The Extortion Case

The case involved Mathias Pogba and five other men who attempted to extort 13 million euros from Paul Pogba in 2022. The group, which included childhood friends of the Pogba brothers, demanded the money and threatened to reveal explosive secrets about Paul Pogba's personal life.

 Sentence and Aftermath

Mathias Pogba's sentence includes a 20,000-euro fine, and he will also have to pay damages to his brother for the emotional distress caused by the extortion attempt. The other defendants in the case received sentences ranging from five to eight years in prison.
