During a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Minister for Youth Development Ayodele Olawande revealed that the ministry plans to send a memo to President Bola Tinubu instructing all government agencies and parastatals to accept corps members for their one-year service.
This comes after the Federal Government lifted the ban on posting corps members to the private sector, including banks and oil and gas companies, in November 2024. However, concerns were raised about the possibility of these future corps members being rejected by these organizations.
In response, Olawande assured that the ministry has directed the "National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)" to remove any barriers to the posting of corps members. He also noted that the ministry is aware of previous cases of rejection by certain agencies and will address them accordingly.
"Before, there were restrictions on where corps members could be posted, but we have removed those barriers. It is important for these young people to gain experience in different industries, rather than just being confined to one sector. This is also a valuable opportunity for them to apply what they have learned in their studies," Olawande stated.
He also mentioned that the ministry will be sending a memo to the President to reinforce this directive and prevent any future rejection by government agencies and parastatals.
In regards to the delayed payment of "the increased N77,000 allowance for serving corps members", the minister assured that the implementation is currently in progress. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in addressing these issues and ensuring a smooth process.
