The Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah on Monday 28 October 2024, announced the commencement of the roads project in Enugu.
He Said: Today marks the commencement of the dualisation of the Penoks - Abakpa Nike - Ugwogo - Nike - Opi - Nsukka Road, spanning 43.7 kilometers. This project, which includes the installation of streetlights, is set to be completed within 18 months. Our commitment to this development initiative was made clear during our campaign, in our determination to ensure all parts of the state experience remarkable economic progress.
Upon its completion, the travel time between Enugu and Nsukka will be significantly reduced to just 30 minutes, providing easier access for residents to live and work in either location. This bridging of distance will not only foster a stronger sense of unity among our people, but also enhance the economic potential of both areas.
Our administration's approach to grassroots development has placed Nsukka zone in a favorable position. By prioritizing projects based on electoral wards, this zone, with 102 wards, will benefit greatly. A total of 102 smart schools, 102 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centers, and over 1,000 kilometers of roads will be delivered, as we strive to build at least 10 kilometers of roads per ward.
The tremendous support shown today is deeply appreciated. To the resilient people of Nsukka and all those who share our vision, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Special recognition is also given to our esteemed royal father, the Igwe of Edem Ani and Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, and other leaders of the zone for their unwavering support for this project.
We are steadfast in our pursuit of building the Enugu State of our dreams - a state that is stronger, more connected, and offers limitless opportunities. This is only the beginning and we are determined to go even further.
