 A tragic event occurred in the Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the loss of over 30 lives. Reports state that a petrol tanker collided with a trailer truck carrying travellers and cattle on their way to Lagos from Kano state. The incident, which took place on Sunday, September 9, 2024, at around 12:30 am, unfolded along Lapai-Agaie, approximately 2km from Dendo Community in Agaie LGA.

In a statement released by the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arab, it was revealed that the collision also caused the death of 50 cattle and led to the destruction of two other vehicles - a crane truck and a pickup van. The heart-wrenching incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of road safety measures.

"The NSEMA has been notified of a fatal explosion involving a petrol tanker on Sunday, 8th of September, 2024, at around 12:30 am on the Lapai-Agaie road, just 2km away from Dendo Community in Agaie LGA," the statement stated.

The collision occurred when a tanker carrying PMS crashed into a trailer truck transporting travellers and cattle from Wudil in Kano State to Lagos. Sadly, the inferno engulfed two other vehicles, causing further damage and claiming the lives of over 30 individuals. The NSEMA's Rapid Respond Team, working in collaboration with LGEMCs, is currently on the scene conducting search and rescue operations as more bodies are feared to be trapped within the affected trucks. This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of following safety regulations and exercising caution while on the road.
