Court remands Ondo pastor for allegedly r@ping and impregnating 15-year-old girl

 A pastor named Oluwasegun Victor has been sent to prison by a Chief Magistrate Court in Akure, Ondo State for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl. The 31-year-old clergyman of Cherubim and Seraphim Church was arrested by the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for this heinous act, which took place in Oba Ile Community in Akure North Local Government Area.

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the defendant was presented before the court and charged with one count of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The prosecution, led by Mr. David Ebriku of the NSCDC, stated that the accused had violated Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Laws of Ondo State 2007 and therefore should be penalized according to Section 31(2) of the same Laws.

The charge read, "On July 24th, 2024 at around 1 pm at No 73 Owode, off Airport Road, Oba-Ile, Akure, Olusegun Victor, a 31-year-old male, committed a serious crime by engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, whose name is withheld, aged 15 years. This act is punishable according to Section 31(1) of the Child Rights' Laws of Ondo State 2007, and could result in up to Section 31(2) of the same laws."

In light of this, the prosecution requested for the defendant to be remanded in a correctional centre. The defense counsel, Mr. Alex Olademehin, requested for time to respond to this application.

After considering both sides, the magistrate, Mr. Taiwo Lebi, ordered for the defendant to be held in a correctional centre. The case has been adjourned till September 19, 2024, for the hearing of the bail application.
