The lawsuit was filed by five contestants who participated in the show “Beast Games,” which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in March. The show, hosted by YouTube sensation Jimmy Donaldson aka MrBeast, promised a massive prize of $5 million and the chance to break world records. However, the contestants claim that behind the glitz and glamour, they were subjected to “unreasonable, unsafe, and unlawful employment conditions.”
According to the 54-page lawsuit, the contestants were denied pay, fed sporadically and sparsely, and were not provided with adequate access to hygiene products or medical care. They also alleged cases of sexual harassment, but specific examples were redacted in the document.
What’s even more startling is the claim that the show obtained an “illegal contract” and provided “false information” to the state of Nevada in order to get tax credits. As a result, the production received $2.5 million in incentives from the state to film in Las Vegas.
This lawsuit comes on the heels of a New York Times report that detailed claims of dangerous conditions on the set of the show. Contestants described seeing fellow players leave on stretchers, vomiting, and passing out, with several hospitalizations taking place. In response, a spokesperson for MrBeast stated that the shoot was “unfortunately complicated by the CrowdStrike incident, extreme weather and other unexpected logistical and communications issues” and that a formal review of the show had started.
The controversy surrounding “Beast Games” has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the treatment of contestants on reality TV shows. It also brings to light the state’s role in providing tax incentives to lure productions to film in their location.

Controversy swirled prior to this lawsuit in early August when a 2017 video showed him responding to a viewer who commented about “selling” Black people. “The most I would pay is probably 300,” he said in response.
A spokesperson for MrBeast acknowledged the star used “inappropriate language” in his humor.
